Sagittarius

Direction and distance. Merging. One-pointedness.

    11.22   -   12.21

The key note of Sagitarius is “I see the goal. I reach the goal and then I see another.
Sagitarius is a disciple’s sign. Sagitarius is the final goal of our work on Earth. The main job of our planetary logos is to transform duality into unity. Our planet makes the duality of Gemini into unity in Sagitarius.

  1. Sagitarius gives us precise understanding of any direction on any level – physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually, and also in the circumstances of our everyday life, and our relationships with others. It also gives us the estimate of the distance to our goal in space, time, money, etc.

Excerpts from  Esoteric Astrology by Alice Bailey, “Sagitarius” (pp. 174 -193):
1. Sagittarius – A beam of directed, focused light. The lighted point becomes a Beam, revealing a greater light ahead and showing the path to the center of light.
2.  In Sagitarius a disciple learns to stop identifying himself with his personality, and starts identifying himself with his spiritual soul. This he does through intuition in the early stages of discipleship.  He stops identifying with form/material life and makes an effort, especially for the future, to be upon the spiritual soul and the fifth kingdom in nature (the kingdom of the souls). For this balance is needed.
3. Here an ordinary person begins to demonstrate the tendency to become more focused, while the fluidity and negativity of Pisces concentrates on achieving a desired goal.  A person demonstrates one-pointed and egotistic instincts. Even though he can be friendly and kind, it is explained by his desire to be popular. This is a good expression for an individual subject. At the same time Sagittarius is an example of the tendency of the soul to turn all the evil into good in the end. The lessons of life get learned, experiment continues.
3. The words characterizing Sagittarius can be groups as follows: self-centeredness, experimental approach, the guard of the gates, directs people. The higher characteristic is One-pointedness.
4. Every time when a person finds himself to be under Sagittarius influence, it is to orient himself towards a new higher goal in order to reveal some important plan. Thus, DIRECTION is the main theme of Sagittarius. The feeling of direction is characteristic of an enlightened person. He becomes a guide, a leader, and his consciousness expands.
5. This is the sign of a one-pointed follower. The life of the fluid reactions to matter transforms into a life of focused response to spirit and preparation for the initiation in Capricorn.
6. On the Ordinary Wheel of Life, a person born in this sign or with this sign ascending, will find himself under the influence of kama-manas. This dual force directs his life and influences it. At the earlier stages the focus is directed at desire and its satisfaction. At the later stages of personality development the focus is directed at the mental control over desire. The main task during this period of time is to use all the powers reasonably in order to adequately satisfy a desire. In this case a desire is very often an ambitious drive to achieve some goal or complete some task.
7. The vision of the soul in Sagitarius takes both an individual disciple and the whole humanity as a disciple to the 1st and 2nd initiations.
8. The lower note of Sagitarius is “Let food be sought.”
9. There are five higher keynotes of Sagitarius:
- Attached duality - the Centaur. Unattached duality – the Archer. Freedom or one-pointedness – the Bow and the Arrow.
- Human ambition leading eventually to spiritual aspiration.
- The light of intuition in a disciple
- The arrow of aspiration returns as the arrow of intuition to the disciple. Sagittarius is one of the intuitive signs, for only the intuition can carry a man to an initiation in Capricorn.
- Idealism which is the power to see the vision and to direct one’s path towards it. This is the work of Mars, the expression of the sixth ray.
10. The rulers of Sagitarius are Jupiter  (exoteric), Earth (esoteric), and Mars (hierarchical).
Gemini have the Earth as a hierarchichal ruler. Gemini give humanity the common duality experience. Sagitarius gives the lesson of unity to humanity.  It has the Earth as its esoteric ruler.
12. The rulers of the three Sagitarius decanates are Jupiter, Mars, and the Sun.
13. Sagitarius is regarded a sign of balance and of no extremes. No planet is exalted in Sagitarius and no planet falls. Only the power of Mercury is greatly lessened.
14. On the Mutable Cross Mercury (representing the 4th Ray of Harmony through conflict) rules Gemini and Virgo, while Jupiter (representing the 2nd  ray of Love-Wisdom ) rules Satittarius and Pisces. Through the influences of Mercury and Jupiter, material desire can be transformed into divine love. And the conflict which is the major characteristic of the human family is key to achieving harmony from chaos. The two planets, and the two rays that pour through them, blend the dualities that humanity expresses into one cooperative whole.
15. Sagitarius governs the thighs, which are the main center of physical power and protective strength, and also the sacral center which provides energy for the use of creative powers of the physical life – sex for example. This is also symbolically true.
Sagitarius is on the Mutalble Cross of Heavens. Its polar opposite on the Cross is Gemini. Sagitarius is a fire sign. Rays 2 (Love-Wisdom), 3 (Intelligent Activity), 6 (Devotion and Idealism) pour onto Earth through the rulers of this sign.
